lat October 1920.

No.915/020/B.S./1.

Sir,

IREC REG❘ DEC20

re-

2.- Visit or Crown Prince of Rumania. Prince Carol of Roumania arrived at Hong Kong in s.8."Madras" on the evening or the 10th June. I accompanied His Excellency, the Governor on board s.s. "Madras" and retumed with him to await the arrival of the Prince, who came ashore about 6.0 o'clock with several members of his starf.

He was ceived at the Fier by His Excellency, and, after inspecting the Guard of Honour provided by the 2nd Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment, drove to Government House, the streets being lined by Seamen and Marines from the Fleet and troops of the Garrison.

His Highness and his staff subsequently attended a banquet at Government House and left the same evening for Canton, returning on the morning of the12th June, shortly before the "Madras" sailed for Shanghai.

The Health of the Colony has been satisfactory. There have been 191 cases of notifiable disease of which 90 were plague, 54 typhoid and 21 Cerebro-Spinal Fever, and of these latter all but 8, 25 and 0 were Chinese cases. Deaths per 1000 were 23.8, 20.6 and 19.2 during June, July and August for the whole population.

Four deaths have taken place at the Naval Hospital, which has been much occupied, use has been constantly made of the Naval Sanatoriums at the Peak by Officers and Ships! Companies and I consider them a valuable adjunct to the Hong Kong Naval Establishments.

I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient Servant,

(Bad) W Bowden Smult

COMMORORE.

The Commander-in-Chief •

H.M.Ships and Vessels,

China Station.

The Secretary of the Admiralty.
